this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!

new sounds from an old friend... i d been running franklin de costa s records for years, but after i played for his party in berlin a few years back we kept in touch. he runs a club night called mother s finest which puts on artists like tessela, truss, untold, dj fett burger and more, as well as releasing singles under his own name on labels like killekill and curle, and, as mudkid, beautiful tracks on greta cottage workshop. the three trax built for this ep on not so much are, like anything fresh and futuristic, hard to pin down in words. sssooo is a kind of detuned chattering b-boy cut that slides sideways between dimensions while always driving forward. mldk is another one for any dancers with moves.

prince of persia sound from the big city: the dusty twilight of day and night sets the atmospheric backdrop for the dreamlike groove visions of berlin based producer zigan aldi. the track blue hill combines a compelling bassline with the enigmatic sound of a string instrument that seems to originate straight from the parallel world of 1001 nights. rosa martha starts as a stripped-down rhythm tool with a rather dark vibe which then contrasts beautifully with a hint of warm house music bubbling up from the depths towards the middle of the track. mollono.bass and pophop dedicate their remixes to the uplifting side of things, and the digital version provides two more exciting adventure stories for dance floor explorers.

while producing the viscera trilogy, fango has tried to understand something about himself. in order to do this, he had to enter into his own body, just like dante entered hell, studying and analysing himself from the inside, diving through organs, guts and grey matter. did it work? yes and no, depending how you look at it. for sure, it helped him in the creation of 3 devastating and introspective eps, but a lot of questions are still unsolved. viscera part 3 is the last leg of a journey that disrupted your 2016 and marks the beginning of a new absurd phase for fango, but this is another story. for the time being we leave you with amnios, metacarpo and metulla. this is viscera 3/3.

having lurked around murky corners of the grubby industrial techno realm for the past year or so, pavel milyakov builds on his rapidly swelling discography with this transmission for public system. it s the second release on the label following a strong opening salvo from dj spider and greypeople, and this 12- offers up further forthright club-wreckers that balance taut functionality with production flair. opening cut -strainn- delivers bludgeoning electro from the netherworld, which ekman then dutifully reworks with an added eerie tension. there are edgy arpeggios aplenty on -trance t- and warmer tones in -augusts 13-, rounding out an essential slab of serious techno tackle.

ixvlf is back at it again following the language of mini-album released earlier this year as part of our ongoing tape series. pushing it further from where we last left off, connor clasens vinyl debut reflects our ever growing desire to re-interpret club music in its most primitive and cartilaginous nature. while cleverly obscuring any reference to a specific period of time, involuntary movement shows a sense of the american-based producer stretching disorienting imagery over the existing landscape of proto-industrial matching the visual interpretation of ailsa ogden undertaking the artwork by way of a new collaboration to be expanded over a handful of releases where unpolished synthesizers and rhythm machines collide and bawl in a controlled crash. it is an exercise of existing in various states of detachment, a fixation on mechanical repetition and unpredictable behaviors through the haze of helium laughter. definitely one for the animals.

hard previously unreleased dubplate cuts on side a, i roy vocal & dub on the same rhythm on the b-side! legendary channel 1 dubplate music. this version of -free black man- by earth & stone was scrapped for release in favor of the softer version that eventually appeared on their -kool roots- album, but this heavy cut achieved infamous dubplate status thru play on uk sound systems. in the case of this tune, it seems only dubwise cuts made the rounds, as we ve not heard (or heard of) a full vocal. and like many tunes not pegged for release from back in the day, mixdown masters were never kept, so only dubplates remain to haunt us. here you get two hard dubwise cuts, remastered from dubplate (punters beware!), raw as ever. on the flip side, i roy s vocal, the only released cut on this rhythm, as well as the only released dub, as appeared on the -musical dub attack.-

nice price deal !!! piemont starts the new year with another amazing release on their own label plumbum! >excuse me ep< is a great two tracker without any remixes as these tracks are special and strong enough to stand on their own. on the a side you find >excuse me< which gets you to a unknown place in a typical piemont style. a style, which can also be safely named experimental. playful drumming combined with trippy vocals refines the whole musical journey. on the b side >foot massage< gets your feet moving from the very beginning no matter whether you are on the streets of new york with headphones or in the club. definitely somewhere where hip hop feels at home. somehow the beat and the vocals remind of >music< by the mighty run dmc... you can only love the old school vocals and the spacy break thank you, guys! another genious release!
